“Baby Whatcha Thinkin’ “ is the bar-room preacher album. It’s the bridge between “Red, White ’n Blue’s” pulpit and “Summer Desires” bonfire. Less sermon, more Saturday night testimony. It’s Chance Alan with his tie loosened, Bible in the truck, cooler in the bed. “Country Music Preacher” meets Rednecka's edgdamacated degree. Honky-tonk philosopher. Half altar call, half last call. “Holy Crap I Am Your Dog” is the Chance Alan trick - the one that makes people put their beer down and say “Did he just say that?” “Fire ‘Em Up” is The Anthem. The Lighter Song. This is the “beer chuggin’ fun” cousin, but with more purpose. The live show moment when Chance points and yells “Fire ‘em up!” Fire up the grill, fire up the crowd, fire up your faith, fire up the truck. “Big Sky Brewing Smoother Than Frog Hairs” is The Sponsorship. The Story Song. Big Sky Brewing is real Montana brewery. “Smoother than frog hairs” is pure redneck simile. This is Chance Alan doing product placement as gospel. Ode to a beer that’s smoother than anything has right to be. But it’s also about Montana, about slowing down, about “80% country song / 20% liquor.” “She said I love you like Big Sky Brewing / Smoother than frog hairs, darlin’, that’s what I’m doin’.” The breather. The one they play during the beer run. “I Know Some Thang About You” is The Closer. The Wink. He knows her secret. Maybe she’s wild, maybe she’s hurting, maybe she’s both. “Baby whatcha thinkin” answered. It’s tender but knowing. The preacher sees you.
